ACTIVE SHOOTER/SERIOUS INCIDENT PROTOCOLS FOR DELTA BUSINESSES
In the event of an Active Shooter/ Serious Incident inside your business, the following protocols are recommended:
1. RUN
- Leave any belongings behind and get clear of any danger
- Know your environment
- Have an exit plan set up in advance
- Know where the exits are (are there multiple routes)
- Call 911 when it’s safe to do so
2. HIDE (If running / escaping is not an option)
- Lock and barricade the door
- Lock the door and turn off all lights
- Be quiet, silence phone (turn off ringer and vibrate). If unavailable to silence, turn off the phone
- Collect improvised weapons and make a plan of attack as silently as you can should you need to defend yourself
3. FIGHT
- Use improvised weapons (Stapler, fire extinguisher)
- Incapacitate the assailant
- Commit to and use physical aggression
- Defend yourself
In the event of an Active threat / Serious Incident in close proximity to your business, the following protocols are recommended:
- Close and lock all doors and access points
- Keep all staff and customers in the store ( no one leaves and no one comes in)
- Hide out of site until advised it is safe to leave (Shelter in place)
***Remember to continuously assess the situation and pursue your best option for survival***
Prepare the following ahead of time:
CREATE A SAFETY PLAN:
- Practice the safety plan
- Evaluate its performance
CREATE A CRISIS RESPONSE KIT (Off Site):
- Building Maps
- Employee Roster
- Keys
- Passwords
- Floor Plans
- Important contact numbers
KNOW YOUR ENVIRONMENT:
- Know all your exits / escape routes
- Create a safety plan and consider the following:
- Communication options
- Evacuation protocols
- Muster procedures
- Identify risks to your organization and how you can/will address them
REMEMBER THESE THREE PHRASES!!!

3. FIGHT IF YOU MUST!
