School Liaison Program

School Liaison Officers help build strong relationships between police, children and youth to help build awareness of safety issues, and grow to become responsible members of the community. The School Liaison Officers (SLOs) serve the 18,000 youth in 37 schools in the Delta school community.

School Liaison Program

In 2021, the Delta Police Department marks 50 years of working with the Delta School District through the School Liaison Program. The School Liaison Program has expanded with the growth of our community, and we are committed to continually refreshing and improving the School Liaison Program to better serve our citizens, both young and old.

Currently our School Liaison Officers (SLO's) serve our 37 public and private schools within Delta. This includes: 29 elementary schools, 8 secondary schools, as well as working with the Delta School District's International Student Program.

The role of the DPD SLO's includes; enforcement of the Criminal Code and other Federal and Provincial Statutes, including the School Act. The focus, however of the SLO's is education and prevention, through positive contact with the student population, forming positive relationships with the youth of Delta as they progress through the school system, and into adulthood.

The Delta Police Department firmly believes that forging positive relationship in the school aged years helps to keep the City of Delta one of the safest communities in the Lower Mainland.
