Our guest, Lane Douglas Hunt, has been a dedicated member of the Victoria Police Department since 2008. Most of her career has been spent on the front lines in patrol, including six years on the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team. Currently, Lane serves as an Explosives Technician, a Detective in the Special Victims Unit, and a member of the Critical Incident Stress Management Team. Outside of work, Lane and her husband, Jeff, are proud "parents" to two dogs, 50 chickens, a 700-gallon reef tank, and five honeybee hives! When they’re not lifting weights or tending their farm, they enjoy riding their Harleys together across beautiful Vancouver Island.
In this episode, Lane shares an incredible story of resilience. The incident occurred in 2011 when she was a junior officer at just 24 years old, with less than two and a half years on the job. What began as a typical day—starting with paperwork and responding to a routine call at a 7-Eleven for a reported chocolate bar theft—quickly escalated into a harrowing and spontaneous attack.
Lane recounts the events of that day, the lessons she learned, and her advice for others facing similar challenges. She also reflects on the post-traumatic stress she experienced, but more importantly, her journey of post-traumatic growth and how she successfully managed her stress.
