Delta Police investigate homicide in North Delta-Update
On February 4, 2022, at approximately 2:05 a.m., Delta Police Department (DPD) members responded to shots fired call at a residence in the 11800 block of 92nd Ave. Upon arrival, DPD members located a male victim suffering from gunshot wounds. First responders performed lifesaving efforts, but unfortunately, the victim died due to his injuries. The victim was identified as Dana Gilbertson (54 years).
The DPD Major Crime Section assumed the conduct of this homicide investigation. Investigators gathered relevant evidence, and a suspect was arrested for this homicide and an unrelated outstanding warrant on February 12, 2022. After a thorough investigation the DPD investigators submitted the evidence to Crown Counsel for charge approval. Surrey Crown Counsel has approved a second-degree murder charge on Aaron Spencer Dutiaume (31 years) of Abbotsford. Mr. Dutiaume remains in custody pending his Court appearance.
Police believe this murder to be an isolated, targeted incident and is not connected to the ongoing Lower Mainland gang conflict. Inspector Heath Newton, in charge of the Investigative Section, stated, “this violent crime created significant fear in a North Delta neighbourhood. We are pleased we can restore a sense of safety by announcing the arrest and charge of Mr. Dutiaume”. As this matter is before the courts, we are unable to provide any additional information.
