Delta Maintains Low Crime Severity Index in 2023
Delta, BC — Statistics Canada has released the 2023 Crime Severity Index (CSI) for jurisdictions across Canada, revealing that Delta continues to uphold a commendable standard of community safety. The CSI is a critical and standardized metric used to evaluate crime levels, considering both the volume and seriousness of offences reported to the police.
Key highlights from the 2023 report include:
Delta’s CSI for 2023 is 63.9.
Delta’s CSI is 39% lower than the provincial average of 104.1.
Delta’s CSI is 21% lower than the national average of 80.2.
Despite a slight increase from last year, Delta’s CSI remains significantly lower than both provincial and national averages. This achievement underscores the dedication and hard work of the Delta Police Department (DPD) and our community in maintaining a safe and secure city.
The DPD's commitment to community safety is reflected in every call attended, investigation conducted, and proactive initiative undertaken. The continuous efforts of the DPD team have been instrumental in achieving and sustaining a low CSI score, highlighting their crucial role in Delta's safety and well-being.
"I attribute our overall low CSI rate to the unwavering commitment of our DPD team," said Chief Constable Neil Dubord. "Their dedication to upholding the safety of our community is evident in their daily work, and I am incredibly proud of their remarkable contributions."
The Delta Police Department extends its heartfelt gratitude to the community for its ongoing support and cooperation. Together, we ensure that Delta remains one of the safest places regionally, provincially, and nationally.
