Cyclist killed in traffic collision
Delta Police were called to a traffic collision around 1:30 pm August 7, at 72nd Street and 36th Avenue, near Boundary Bay Airport.
The collision occurred between a cyclist who had been travelling on 36th Ave and a vehicle travelling south on 72nd Street. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene, and is cooperating with police.
“Emergency Health Services attended, but unfortunately the cyclist did not survive the collision,” says Cris Leykauf, public affairs coordinator for Delta Police. She confirms officers have contacted the cyclist’s immediate family, but says Delta Police won’t be providing any further identifying information to allow extended family and loved ones to be notified.
South bound 72nd Street will be closed until approximately 6 pm, as the Delta Police Traffic Collision Reconstructionist is on scene, investigating. Drivers are thanked for their patience.
