You do not need a lawyer or representative to apply for a pardon. This will not accelerate the review of your application or convey a special status on it. The National Parole Board treats all applications in the same way. For step-by-step instructions on applying for a pardon, consult the Pardon Application Guide.
The pardon application guide can be viewed on the National Parole Board website.
If you are eligible for a pardon the first step of the pardon application process is to obtain your Criminal Record from RCMP Ottawa. This is done by submitting your fingerprints to Ottawa and they in turn will send you a certified copy of your Criminal Record. The Delta Police Department can provide you with a set of your fingerprints and instructions for sending them to Ottawa. Fingerprinting is done by appointment only. Please call 604.946.4411 ext. 5250 to set up an appointment. See Fingerprinting Services for more information.
Once your Criminal Record from RCMP Ottawa has been returned to you a local police records check is required (the required form is located in the Pardon Application Guide). You must include a copy of the certified copy of your Criminal Record that was returned to you from RCMP Ottawa. We will not be able to process the local police records check without this document. You are required to have the Local Police Records Check form completed by the police department in each jurisdiction where you have lived in the last five years. If you have lived in Delta in the last five years, the Delta Police Department charges a $65 fee for this service and requires two pieces of current government issued photo identification »see acceptable forms of identification for more information.
This document expires six months from date of police department completion.
If you reside outside of the Lower Mainland you can mail in your request for the Local Police Records check with a money order or certified cheque made payable to the Corporation of Delta for $65. Please also include photocopies of two pieces of government-issued photo identification and all required documentation.
