Delta Police Investigating Fatal Collision – Highway 17

At approximately 6:20 a.m. September 5, 2017 Delta Police responded to the 3100 blk of Highway 17 (westbound) for a collision involving a motorcycle and 5 ton truck.
Initial indications are that a motorcycle was travelling on Hwy 17 westbound in the fast lane. The motorcycle driver was in the process of changing lanes when for some unknown reason he lost control of his motorcycle. As a result the driver of the motorcycle was ejected off the bike and was subsequently struck by a passing truck. Sadly the motorcyclist died at the scene.
Delta police collision analyst and forensic ident members are conducting the scene examination and investigation. The Delta Police will remain on scene for several hours.
Delta Police are currently in the process of notifying next of kin. Delta Police Victim Services are also assisting to support witnesses to this collision.
Traffic will continue to be diverted from Hwy 17 westbound onto Highway 99 northbound. Additionally, there is no access to Highway 17 westbound from southbound Highway 99. This area will be affected for the next several hours. Delta Police strongly encourage motorists to use alternate routes.
