Amber Alert for Child Abduction

At approx 0900 hrs Alberta time John Martin was arrested without incident at a residence in Didsbury, Alberta.

His one year old daughter was also located at that residence unharmed and in good health. The RCMP in Alberta are working out a safe location for her until she can be reunited with her mother.

Martin is being held in custody and a charge for Parental Abduction has been laid. Arrangements are being made to have Martin returned to BC.

The investigation is continuing both in Delta, BC and Didsbury, Alberta.

Amber Alert for Child Abduction

Delta Police have issued an amber alert in the abduction of 1 year old Maria MARTIN.

On Thursday September 28 2006, Maria Martin was abducted from the family home in North Delta, by her father John MARTIN who is described as a white male, 27 years old, 6 ft 2 inch, 160 pounds, slim build, blond hair, blue eyes, freckled complexion.

Witness reported that they saw the father leaving the family residence around 230 P.M in company of another female.

Delta Police believe John MARTIN maybe heading to Langley, Kamloops or Sylvan Lake Alberta where he has family and friends.

John Martin is believed to be driving a 1998 Chevrolet Malibu 4 door, sedan, green in colour. British Columbia Licence plate 317-GTK.

Martin is known to police and has drug and alcohol addictions.

Police are concerned for the safety of the child and are urging the public to be on alert for John Martin and/or his vehicle and to call 9-1-1.

Shots fired

At just after midnight last night a report of gun shots was heard by numerous people. The area was contained and Richmond K9 was brought in to search. The neighborhood was canvassed for witnesses.

Numerous shell casing were found in the area. No damage was discovered anywhere, and no injured person was reported.

No witnesses saw anyone shooting a gun or anybody leaving the area. Only the sound of gun fire was heard. File in still under investigation, but at this time police have no further information.

Update - autopsy results for death of 16 year old

The results for the autopsy came back and it has been determined at this point that no foul play was involved.

There are still other tests to be done, but the Coroner will be looking after those.

Sudden death of a 16 year old male

The Delta Police Department is investigating the sudden death of a 16 year old Richmond male. The deceased, who’s name is not being released at this time, was staying overnight at a friend’s house on Thursday in Tsaw. On Friday morning, Sept 1, 2006, the male did not wake up and the police were contacted.

The Delta Police are investigating the death.

The autopsy is scheduled for Tues., Sept. 5, and it is unknown at this time when the results of that test will come back.

The investigation is ongoing and no further information can be released at this point.

Missing 76 year old male tourist located

On September 5 at 12:15 am the Delta Police were contacted by the wife of the missing tourist. Her husband contacted her at the hotel she was staying at to say that he was safe and at the Vancouver Airport. He had managed to get a ride to the airport and then fell asleep there waiting until she would arrive.

While at the airport he finally overheard someone speaking Portuguese and asked them for help.

The Delta Police would like to thank the media for running with this story on the news last night.

Missing 76 year old male tourist

On Sunday, September 3rd at 3:00p.m. a Brazilian couple on holidays, were separated when they were travelling from Victoria to Vancouver on a BC Ferry. The man missed the bus that he was due to get on with his wife and two other couples that they were travelling with.

The 71 year old wife has not heard from her husband even though they had a plan if they were separated.

The missing man is 76 year old Francisco Iran Oliveria, who is described as being a white male approximately 200lbs, 5ft 9in to 5ft 10in and speaks only Portuguese.

He was wearing a blue long sleeved collared shirt with a khaki vest that has 4 front pockets, khaki cap, white shoes, blue jeans and glasses. Mr Oliveria has previous heart surgery and is on medication. He does not have his medication with him.

He was last seen at the ferry terminal on the Delta side. He is a very religious Catholic man and will most likely try and find his way to a church if at all possible.
