Dog Deployments
ICS dog handlers attended over 2,500 police calls for service in 2008, and deployed their dogs 927 times. Deployments between Delta and New Westminster were almost even (a difference of only 10 calls between the jurisdictions), and some of the deployments were in surrounding municipalities when there was no dog available and the ICS was called upon to assist.
Police Dog Arrests
In 2008 the ICS had 139 arrests that could be attributed to the dog – up from 117 arrests in 2007. Many of the arrests involved dangerous, often armed, suspects either fleeing or actively avoiding apprehension. Not included in the arrests were situations where the dogs located evidence or drugs during the course of the deployment, evidence used by the investigating officers to aid in their investigation of various crimes.
Demonstrations
The ICS dog teams perform public demonstrations upon request by appropriate community groups. Dog demonstrations are an important part of ICS duties and ICS is eager to accommodate organizations interested in demonstrations. Anyone interested in having an ICS dog team perform at a community function please contact Cst Johnston at 604.946.4411.
