Law Enforcement Torch Run – Special Olympics

Each year the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) raises millions of dollars worldwide for the Special Olympics and is held just before the Special Olympics begin. Since 1990, the LETR has raised $3.4 million to help Special Olympic athletes in BC and each year brings in about $30 million worldwide. Delta Police have participated for several years in LETR and in sponsoring local Special Olympic athletes.

2014 Law Enforcement Torch Run Final Leg Run

This year the LETR took place across the province in June with the final leg in the Lower Mainland from July 5-8, 2014.  S/Sgt. Deb Mcleod and A/Sgt. Sarah Swallow represented Delta Police along with 26 runners from across BC and Canada. The Run concluded with the Flame of Hope arriving at the Opening Ceremonies of the Games.

Special Olympics Canada 2014 Summer Games

The 2014 Games were held at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver from July 8-12, 2014.

Fundraising Events

Throughout the year Delta Police participates in fundraising events leading up to the Special Olympics. For the 2014 Games these events included:

July 3, 2014 – Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament: A fundraiser at the tournament raised approximately $500 for Special Olympics.

February 16, 2014 – Vancouver Giants vs Kamloops Blazers hockey game where a portion of every ticket sale went to fundraising for the Special Olympics BC. $3,900 was raised from this event.

January 25, 2014 – Battle of the Badges: The hockey game between Delta Police and Delta Fire raised $4,000 for the Law Enforcement Torch Run/Special Olympics.

July 4, 2013 – Annual Golf Tournament, Delta Chamber of Commerce/Delta Police raised $275 for the Law Enforcement Torch Run/Special Olympics.
